Victoria’s new minimum energy efficiency standards start taking effect from 1 March 2027. Rental properties will need to meet requirements for cooling, ceiling insulation, efficient showerheads and draught sealing — on top of the heating standard already in force — or landlords risk non-compliance.

The 2027 Minimum Standards Cover:
- Ceiling insulation (minimum R5.0) — from March 2027
- Cooling — energy efficient fixed cooler in main living area — from March 2027
- Efficient showerheads (3-star WELS) — from March 2027
- Draught sealing of external doors, windows and wall vents — from July 2027
- Heating — energy efficient fixed heater — already required
